Bernoulli's Principle Activities

This video shows the same demonstration I showed on the April 29th, 2020 morning message and explains Bernoulli's Principle pretty simply.

Toilet Paper Trick
WARNING: If you're watching this while we're still dealing with toilet paper shortages, DO NOT DO THIS AT HOME. Your parents will not be pleased if you waste a roll of toilet paper to try this out! So just watch the video for now!

Math Magic Mind Reading Trick -- Try it yourself!

There's a lot of math and not much magic in this trick once you know how to make it work. This video will tell you everything you need to know. Spoiler alert: It's all about 10,000s (well, more like 9,999s)!

Did you try it yourself? Post a video here!

Magic Numbers Card Trick (As Seen on BSEN!)

Picture
You will need a set of "magic cards" to do this trick. You can print them at home by going to this link:
https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0955/2452/files/Magic_Math_Cards.pdf?10250573149741188969

If you can't print the cards for yourself, you could make your own just by copying the numbers (in the same order) onto paper!

Here's how to perform the trick:
1. Place all 6 cards face-up in a pile and put the "Pick a Number Between 1 and 30" card on top.  The order of the other 5 number cards      does not matter.
2. Ask your friend to pick a number between 1 and 30.  Be sure that he/she does not tell you what it is!
3. Show the first number card in the pile and ask, "Is your number on this card?"  Be sure that your friend looks carefully before responding
     * If your friend says "yes," make a mental note of the number in the top lefthand corner of that card (it's either 1, 2, 4, 8, or 16).
     * If your friend says "no," just continue.
4. Show your friend the next number card in the pile and do the same as you did before.
5. Repeat until you have asked your friend for all 5 number cards.
6. You should have kept a mental note of the top lefthand corner numbers for all of the cards to which your friend responded "yes."  Add those numbers together.
*TIP: Keep a running total in your head as you move through the cards instead of waiting until the end to add them.  It's much easier to remember a running total than to remember a bunch of different numbers.
7. The sum that you just calculated is your friend's secret number!

Can you figure out why this trick always works?
