Walking Robot Activity
https://buggyandbuddy.com/robot-craft-for-kids-free-printable-gliding-robot/
Want to try the activity you saw on Wednesday's digital morning message. The directions are in the link above. All you will need is paper (heavy paper works best), a little bit of tape, a straw, string, and something to tie to the end of the string.
Turn this activity into a STEM challenge by taping the straws at different angles or in different locations to find the best way to make the robot climb quickly up the string. Do you have different types of string at home, maybe yarn, fishing line, ribbon, twine, etc.? How do the different types of string affect how the robot moves?

What is STEM?
How can I support Big Shanty's STEM program?
Are you a family member of a Big Shanty student or a member of our local community with a STEM-y job or skill? We would love to tap into your expertise and consider ways we might be able to work together! Please email Betsey Olotka ([email protected]).
Support our STEM fundraisers! Whether it's Smencils or something else, we earn money for our STEM program $1 at a time, so we're very appreciative of your participation in these fundraisers because they fund everything we do!
Support STEM interests at home. Kids are naturally drawn to STEM, but some of the projects they try can create a real mess. Take a breath, envision your student graduating from a prestigious college with a degree in a STEM major, and then remind them to clean up after themselves!
